Ana Isabel Solano Brenes has been named president of the board of directors at Banco Nacional.
A bank statement said that this is the first time in 101 years that a woman has held the post.
Ms. Solano is an academic who also has been president of Banco Popular. She was named at the start of his administration by President Luis Guillermo Solís to be executive director of Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje but abruptly decline the position citing private reasons.
Ms. Solano has a master’s in administering businesses from the Universidad de Costa Rica and
a degree in the same area from the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. She also has been rector of Universidad Fidélitas.
Banco Nacional has faced criticism lately because of the high salaries and benefits paid employees and bank officials.
