Emergency declared for the holidays

The national emergency commission has taken the unusual step of declaring a low-level emergency for the holidays.

The Comisión Nacional de Prevención de Riesgos y Atención de Emergencias did so to put local emergency committees into action to handle the flow of tourists as well as continue the support of some 5,000 Cuban migrants who are stranded in the country.

The yellow alert concerns mainly the western part of the Central Valley, the Pacific coast and the northern zone. The action causes the various emergency commissions to activate their system and basically remain on their toes.
