Confiscated items varied in 2015

The Fuerza Pública says that its officers confiscated 7,465 cans of beer, 2,446 bottles of alcohol, 371 car batteries, 424 watches and clothing, perfume and beauty items.

The agency said that the confiscations mostly were made at the Kilometer 35 checkpoint on the Interamericana Sur. The agency admitted that the motive for smuggling was that such items are sold cheaper in Panamá and that those bringing them into the country did not declare them at the border and pay customs duty.

And this week police reported stopping and confiscating 3,000 cans of beer from a pickup.

This is a start on the 2016 confiscation totals.
