Health ministry says that latest total of swine flu deaths is 24

The recent death toll due to the AH1N1 virus is now 24. The  Ministerio de Salud updated the figures Tuesday.

All of those who died had complicating medical conditions, said the ministry. The numbers have increased as lab reports have been returned.

In addition, one of the victims died at home.

Two children died at the Hospital Nacional de Niños. The Hospital de San Carlos saw six deaths.

Five patients died at the Hospital de Alajuela and three persons died at the Cartago public hospital.

Except for two victims listed as having lived in Atenas, all of the victims came from different communities, according to a summary provided by the ministry.

Fernando Llorca Castro, the minister of Salud, said that there are clear indications that the number of the swine flu cases is diminishing.
