Cloned credit cards of U.S. citizens have been used to make purchases here, even though the cards’ real owners never have been in the country.
The fact launched judicial agents on an investigation in December. The detective work climaxed Tuesday with the arrest of a man in Concepción de Tres Ríos. The initial complaint had been filed by a bank.
Agents said they found 400 fake credit cards, two skimming devices used to extract electronic data from cards and various computer equipment. Also found were fake passports and driver licenses, they said.
