The Ministerio de Salud said Tuesday that it has reduced the cost of obtaining a sanitary permit for small business food establishments.
The ministry also said that is it trying to simplify paperwork and is instituting a Web-based approval process.
The ministry requires that foods and cosmetics as well as medicines be subject to approval. Sometimes this is a long process.
The ministry is following up on two presidential directives. In the case of food products, the approval time is to be cut from 22 to five days. Cosmetic approvals, which now take an average of 44 days, will be also cut to five, said the ministry.
And the cost of enrollment for small businesses is being cut to $20 from $100, it added.
