Maybe it is the freezing weather, but the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo said it dispensed a record amount of aviation fuel for aircraft that were using the Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia.
The state monopoly said that the current high season has created a demand for jet fuel that is 38 percent greater than last year.
The majority of passengers who arrive and leave at the Liberia airport are tourists who are headed to the Pacific coast beach resorts.
The firm said it sold 407,040 liters of jet fuel Saturday. That is about 108,000 gallons. The firm is building a third storage tank at the airport to handle future demand.
