Schools are turning to robotics to attract the attention of students and keep them away from other temptations.
The robotics program will go to 36 high schools in low-income areas under the project that has extensive institutional support. In addition to the Ministerio de Educación Pública, the project is backed by the Universidad Nacional, the Instituto Costarricense sobre Drogas and the Ministerio de la Presidencia.
The project was outlined Monday.
Three groups of teachers will be trained to carry back the knowledge to their home schools, which are in Desamparados, Cartago, Grande de Térraba, Guápiles, Puntarenas y San Carlos, Heredia, San José Central, San José Norte, San José Oeste, Liberia, Sarapiquí, Alajuela, Puriscal and Los Santos.
The teachers will introduce students to the Lego Mindstorms products that can be assembled into a variety of robotic devices.
The drug institute will be purchasing some materials.
