Advance cited in Interamericana job

The nation’s road agency said Wednesday that 50 percent of the expanded Interamericana Norte is in service. The four-lane stretch is between Bagaces and the Liberia intersection.

The entire job is to expand the highway to four lanes from Liberia to Cañas. The 50-kilometer job includes rebuilding or fixing up 36 bridges to accommodate the wider lanes.

The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes noted that 5.4 kilometers of the road already is in service.

The road job is considered a major advance in transportation because this is the route that leads to the Nicaraguan border.

This is the new four-lane stretch.
