Government to present its system for digital property plats

The top central government officials are scheduled to present the online version of the country’s property description maps or plats. The system, Sistema Digital de Planos de Catastro, is related to date on the Web site of the Colegio Federado de Ingenieros y de Arquitectos, and it has been in development for years.

An announcement said that officials, including President Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera, would outline how the new system would benefit the citizenry.

Costa Rican property is confusion at least because there are
many overlaps and basic errors in the description of property. Some of this is on purpose.

The session today includes representatives of the Registro Nacional where the written documents showing property ownership are kept.

An online series of property maps would be of major benefit to property owners, real estate brokers, lawyers, bankers and operators of mortgage firms. The system also would discourage fraud.
