The health ministry said that it has inspected 12 establishments in San José Centro, Tibás, Aserrí and Alajuela Centro and confiscated 6,840 products already this month.
The locations were mainly supermarkets, distributors and health food outlets.
In addition to the Ministerio de Salud, inspectors came from the Ministerio de Economía Industria y Comercio, the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal and the local municipal police, it said.
The goal of the inspections was to verify that the products on sale were correctly registered with the health ministry and correctly labeled, said a report.
The economics ministry is interested in the correct labeling of products.
