The security ministry said it has barred the visit of a Nicaraguan comedian because his life would be in danger.
That was the excuse announced Thursday for putting the name of Reynaldo Ruiz on the immigration blacklist. Ruiz and an associate, José Ramón Quintanilla, make up the Grupo INN. They were scheduled to perform next week at an entertainment event directed mostly for Nicaraguans. A Nicaraguan restaurant was the organizer. The show has been canceled as a result of the government action.
The Ministerio de Seguridad Pública said it had taken the action in order to preserve the public order. An announcement added that workers for the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería at the various border crossings and airports had been instructed to bar the comedian.
Th announcement said that the government respects liberty of expression but also considers more important the physical integrity of artists.
But it also cited xenophobic actions by small sectors in both countries. The announcement did not make clear if the ministry was talking about third parties or the comedian.
