Tonight is tango night for orchestra

The Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional plans a tango night tonight under the direction of a conductor from Uruguay.

The director, Gisele Ben-Dor, said that she has selected works of Astor Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera and Luis Bacalov.

Juan José Mosalini from Argentina will perform with the orchestra Piazzolla piece  “Adiós Nonino.” This is a work for the bandoneón and orchestra.

A second piece on the program, “Estancia,” is not a tango, but it was written by Ginastera. The conductor noted that this year his 100th birthday is being celebrated. She said it demonstrates another area of Argentinian music.

The performance tonight is at 8 p.m. in the Teatro Nacional. As is traditional, the performance will be repeated at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
