The Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional will join with 11 dancers tonight and Friday at the Teatro Nacional to present a variation of “Carmen.”
This is not the opera with music composed by French composer Georges Bizet. The production dates from 1967 and is called “Suite Carmen.” The orchestra still promises ample doses of love and betrayal as in the opera, an announcement promised.
The composer of the latest work is Rodión Shchedrín, a Russian. The choreographer is Alberto Alonso, a Cuban. The first performance was at the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow.
The choreographer and performer here, Mario Vircha, is directing the dancers. The presentation is at 8 p.m. both days.
