The judiciary has inaugurated its new building in Puerto Jiménez on the Osa peninsula. The location is in southwestern Costa Rica and includes Parque Nacional Corcovado, a major tourist attraction.
Prosecutors, public defenders, a creditors court and judges for felonies and misdemeanors are at the new facility.
The community is on the east shore of the peninsula. In the past those with judicial business had to travel to Golfito, which meant a 264-kilometer road trip or a 45-minute boat ride across the Golfo Dulce, noted the Poder Judicial.
Nearly 9,000 persons living in the area will be served by the facility, which is 100 meters from the Escuela Saturnino Cedeño Cedeñ in Puerto Jiménez.
Judicial investigators will have an office there, too, the Poder Judicial noted, adding that air conditioning has been installed in the structure.
