Parental visit in Heredia leads for double murder

A parental visit turned into a double murder Wednesday in the usually quiet neighborhood of San José de la Montaña. A father appears to have become enraged and cut down his 27-year-old wife and her mother, 47, with machete slashes to the head, neck and arms. The father-in-law, 52, suffered serious wounds.

The suspect is a 27-year-old man with the last name of  Vílchez, said the Fuerza Pública, which made the arrest in the street outside the murder scene.

The murders took place shortly before noon in the presence of the couple’s children, 14, 6 and 1, said the Judicial Investigating Organization.

The dead were identified as Margarita Espinoza Arce, the suspect’s wife, and her mother, Mayela Arce Rodríguez. The father-in-law, Álvaro Espinoza Martínez, was in the Hospital San Rafael de Alajuela.
