There are a lot more mobile telephone connections than there are people in Costa Rica. The Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones in a report on 2015 said that there were 153 cell telephone lines for every 100 persons in the country.
Online use was up 82 percent by the estimated 4.8 million users over the prior year. But people are talking less. The Superintendencia said that the minutes of voice connections fell by 9 percent in 2015. The agency said this is the first time that the amount of voice communication had declined.
The use of bandwidth was up 97 percent over 2014, said the report. That is the result of those mobile apps and mobile internet access.
The increase in use also can be attributed to the aggressive marketing of the private internet providers.
