Expats in San Pedro de Montes de Oca have one less street robber to worry about. A stickup victim pulled out his own gun in the la Granja section of the community about 9 p.m. Wednesday when confronted by one or more robbers.
A presumed robber died on the spot with a bullet to the neck, said the Judicial Investigating Organization.
Neither individual was identified. The presumed robber had no identification, it appears.
The robbery victim was licensed to carry the weapon, but he surrendered it to law enforcement officers at the scene, they said.
The man did not flee but waited the arrival of police after the shooting, investigators said.
The Ministerio Público, the office of the prosecutors, will determine how the robbery victim will be treated. Usually such incidents are considered legitimate self defense.
