Coffee growers to get some supplies

The national emergency commission said it began distributing agricultural necessities to 1,300 coffee producers who suffered damage in flooding more than a year ago.

The agency said it has invested 400 million colons in agricultural products for growers in  La Suiza, Pavones, Tayutic, Tuis, Santa Teresita and Turrialba. That is about $735,000.

The distribution began Monday in La Suiza and Tayutic de Turrialba, The products include fertilizers, fungicides, and mineral supplements. The distribution will continue through the month, said the commission.

The Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería also was involved.  The amount of each donation will be adjusted based on the grower’s record of production with the Instituto del Café de Costa Rica, said the agency.

Cane growers in the area will will be visited by emergency commission workers for a distribution planned for next month.
