The Festival Nacional de las Artes 2016 begins Friday for a 10-day run in southern Costa Rica.
The principal locations will be Golfito and Ciudad Neily. Events also will take place one day each at San Vito, Agua Buena, La Cuesta, Comte, Rey Curré, Río Claro, Ciudad Cortés and Palmar Norte.
The Ministerio de Cultura y Juventud says that 600 artists will participate in 250 events during the 10 days.
The inauguration of the festival will be Friday in the Parque Central, the Catholic church, the Liceo and the fairgrounds of the Cámara de Ganaderos Independientes in Ciudad Neily.
Saturday and until Aug. 14 events will be in Golfito in the Parque Central, the Gimnasio del Pueblo Civil, the Colegio Técnico Profesional and the concert area at the Hotel Samoa.
The festival this year also is sponsored by the Junta de Desarrollo Regional de la Zona Sur. The festival is the largest cultural undertaking of the year.
