Law officers broke up the high seas transfer of 745 kilos of cocaine and detained seven persons last weekend. The law enforcement action took place in the Pacific some 60 miles off Cabo Blanco, the same place where last week more than a ton of cocaine was confiscated from another small boat.
In the latest case, the Servicio Nacional de Guardacostas, the Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea and the Unidad Especial de Intervención came upon cocaine being transferred from one boat to two smaller ones, said the Ministerio de Seguridad Pública.
One boat has a Colombian captain and crew, said the ministry. The two smaller boats had two-man crews from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The cocaine appears to have been headed for the Costa Rican mainland for shipment north over land.
Meanwhile Sunday, the Policía de Fronteras and the Fuerza Pública chased and managed to stop two cars carrying 45 kilos of cocaine near Paso Canoas. The vehicle occupants fled.
