The country’s zika toll took an eighty-patient jump, according to statistics released Wednesday by the Ministerio de Salud. Jacó and its canton of Garabito continue to lead the statistics.
The statistics show 135 cases in Garabito and Jacó with 54 in Orotina and 50 in Puntarenas Centro. Esparza has 43, Santa Cruz 41, Quepos 37 and Carrillo 24. The total reported Wednesday was 521 cases. Last week the number was 441.There were 124 cases in Garabito then.
Except for a few cases in Central Valley communities, Limón Centro and Sarapiquí zika is confined to the Pacific coast. By contrast there have been nearly 13,000 reported cases of dengue this year.
